I built a frame from 1/2" PVC with a slight bow to keep tension on the canvas. I didn't use any PVC cement so that I can take it apart. It is light weight and inexpensive to make and work pretty good. You can also cover it with fabric and insulate it for sound and warmth. It can be easily removed for summer. This same concept might be able to be adapted to other soft tops 1/2 pick is pretty flexible and easy to work with. You can see buy clicking on the second pick that I use a seconded sub-frame. In the space created, I was going to insulate and attach a headliner to the lower frame. My plan was to make 3 more frames, one for the back window (with rear window opening) and 2 for the sides. The 1/2 PVC can be bent using a heat gun. Once the frames were made I was going to fill in the space with 3/4 foam rubber and then cover them with fabric. This would insulate for heat and sound a act as a cushion for the canvas to slap against. Another quick fix that can help is to cover the original metal frame parts with foam pipe insulation found at the local builder store. I have since sold this top and built a fiberglass hard top.
