Unimog Finished Electronic Fuel Injection and Distributorless Ignition

Page 1

Here are some final pics of the Electronic Fuel Injection and the Distributorless Ignition that I installed on the M180 with a low compression head. In my original posting I was using the Mass Airflow Sensor that came with the original system. I also bought  a Crank Trigger Wheel and pick up sensor, and an upgrade EPROM chip that would allow total engine control via laptop. The new chip was designed to use a MAP sensor (manifold air pressure) instead of the MAS mass airflow sensor  and add a MAT sensor (manifold air temperature). The system also came with a distributor that was used in the jeep to trigger the electronic ignition. This distributor would have been to difficult to modify to use in the mog and is also less accurate than a crank trigger wheel. It is allot easier to add a supercharger or turbocharge by changing the MAP sensor than to deal with a MAS sensor. I am planning on adding a Super/Turbocharger and a air intake snorkel at that time. Another nice feature about this system it also has a check engine light that will flash a code to tell you if a sensor is not working or if one of the systems parameters is out of range, such as the O2 sensor. The final results where well worth the money and effort. Although a stock mog will take you just about anywhere, we just get so spoiled with the way modern day cars run, start, and automatically adjust for altitude and temperature. The other nice thing about fuel injection is that no matter what angle the Unimog is at it will never stall.  My mog now runs and starts like a new car. I don't miss the cold starts and chock one bit. This system also has additional out put that can be set by the user to control other options such as electric cooling fans that can turn on and off according to the CTS (cooling temps sensor) which also controls the throttle position and rich fuel mix for cold starts. The electric fan is another thing that I plan to add and maybe gain a few extra horses. The system also has out puts to control NO2 systems, just incase you really want a fast  motor. The system also has inputs for a knock sensor but I with the solid valve train, I think it would get false readings. There are also some pics of the GM alternator installed in this group I have since replace it with a 150 amp altinator.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me.

Thanks for looking,

Mark
