Fiberglass Hardtop for Unimog 404

Here as some pics of the fiberglass hardtop that I made starting with a older hardtop form a CJ7.

I'm guessing the year to be in the late 70's. Unfortunately many of the picture that I had taken where erased

during a virus attach on my compute. Using a data recovery software I was able to get some of them back.

They are not arranged in exact chronological order but you can get the general idea of how the fabrication went. Originally I thought about using a top from a CJ8 or the 1/2 tops that where available, but they are pretty hard to find. The full top worked out better because it gives you extra material to splice the pieces back together as shown in some of the pictures. I was able to buy the complete CJ top with windows and tailgate for $120. I hoping to sell the remaining windows and seals for $75. Altogether I have about $625 dollars invested in materials including the sliding rear window $26, the sunroof $6, the overhead console $30, and the rear/cargo light $18, all purchased through E-Bay. Now that I have the top completed I am starting on the doors and will post the pics as soon as I have them done. I hope to add more text about the details of the fabrication, materials, and techniques that I used, along with some of the things that I would do different. I haven't weighed the top, but my wife and myself can carry it fairly easy. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me.

Thanks for looking,

Mark
